The Inhumanity of Humanity

Worried
Cattle cars were waiting for us
Thousands of people
It seemed like forever
Where were they taking us?
Forced labor camp
Concentration camp
Auchwitz

Persecution
Throwing people into fiery pits
Burned
Absolutely full of dead bodies
That was the last time I saw my father
No one heard again from him
I won’t go into their gas chamber
They’re not going to take my soul

Beaten
The Germans swung them against the wall
We should hang you here right on the spot
Simply shot on the spot
People were weak
Emaciated
Skeletons
They came with vicious dogs
Hunted animals

Unbelievable
Could not believe my eyes
Mad man’s hell
Where is God?
Why did God spare me?
I cannot forget
The inhumanity against man is insane

Rationale:
I chose to title this poem "Inhumanity of Humanity" because I wanted to portray what the Nazi Germans were doing to their own kind. What the Nazis did to Jews was inexcusable. I wanted the views of the people going through the concentration camps to be depicted throughout this poem. I chose to pick strongly negative words to show the realities of the Holocaust. It is extremely difficult for our generation to fathom the cruelty that the Jewish people experienced. It is my hope that others will somehow be able to grasp what these innocent people endured.
